Senior Citizens Need Our Help!

Suekey started this conversation

I have been batting my head to help senior citizens and I finally came up with something!

I recently got laid-off from a non-profit organization. I have many years of experience in non-profit's and from the past 15 years it seems as though people are focusing on youth and community. Don't get me wrong, I feel there is a strong need of help for both of them. What I am looking to do is to help the elderly. I have not seen nearly as much attention/funding in this area. It's a shame that we "forget" about the elderly and focus on everything but.

Not just working for non-profits do I notice the elderly being forgotten, but also through my own family and friends. They just get left behind and it's time that we stand up for them, they are intelligent, sincere, and even helpful. It's time to do something about this disgrace in America.

I would like to know where I can receive grant money to start helping the elderly. I would like start an organization and/or business in helping them clean, wash clothing, grocery shop, organize, help them understand their medical, etc. I would like to do this on an income basis. Charge them a percentage (low) of their income and have the grant pay for the rest. It's the least we can do to help them...all of them!

If anyone has information on how to get this started, please contact me at suekey1@aol.com.

 in response to Archdeluxe...   Archdeluxe,
I have 20 years of experience in homecare (home health nursing, infusion therapy, home oxygen and medical equipment). My partner has a similar background, and we are in the early stage of conceptualizing a business, which provides services (unskilled care) to seniors. I would be interested in finding out more about your business. Please drop me an email if you would like to share ideas. Tenski2

in response to Suekey...   I would like to know more about what you are doing. I am about to start building an Communitiy for the Elderly in Trinidad Colorado, I would like to know how to fund it with out getting Grants. I own the land free and clear, worth over 2 million. I have build custom homes for 25 years. This is just something I have no Clue how to get funding.

Sue,
I'm also interested in helping the elderly and am in the process of starting a elderly homecare business. I already have the business plan, but no funds. How is your research with grants going? I would refer you to NY Foundation. You should be able to access them online.

in response to Suekey...   I have been researching to do the same thing. Almost exact in services. Please stay in touch with me via email. I will refer information to you as I come across it and maybe you can do the same for me! I have just been doing basic statistic research so far and preparing my business model.
In hopes to hear from you soon,

I can't believe it's been almost 4 years since I began searching for help for the elderly!

I've been ill with back issues, along with surgery, and have not been able to continue with my search for helping the elderly, until now...

I am not giving up, just had a delay in my goals, but I'M BACK!!  If anyone has any comments, issues, etc. on this subject, please let me know. I'll try to do what I can to direct you with the answers and hopefully solve any or all that I can!

At this time I am looking to work part-time until I can handle the full-time responsibilities. I want so bad to go "gung-ho" into helping, but cannot until the doctor gives me the OK...until then, I'm here for you all and am excited to continue the work for the elderly!

I hope all of you have been well and God bless you!

Wendy
